.

One day soon, man is going to be able to harness incredible energies, maybe even the atom. Energies that could ultimately hurl us to other worlds in some sort of spaceship. And the men that reach out into space will be able to find ways to feed the hungry millions of the world and to cure their diseases. They will be able to find a way to give each man hope and a common future, and those are the days worth living for. Our deserts will bloom.

but why why why did they make umeda’s character straight

Can’t have us queer people polluting their perfectly heterosexual tv shows!

No seriously, everything gets heterosexualised and cisgenderised in tv adaptions. Yoite from Nabari no Ou’s intersexuality is suddenly not mentioned, any queer character has their sexual orientation erased..
Except in Game of Thrones, where subtext suddenly turned into blowjobs

Ugh seriously, and the only reason Game of Thrones can get away with it is because they aren’t on public television.

And the thing that makes it even more ridiculous is that it’s not like by erasing Umeda’s sexuality they removed all the potential queerness in Hana Kimi. One of the main characters spends most of the series in a gay panic because he’s falling in love with a person he thinks is a boy, and they left all of that in because ~we know she’s actually a girl and therefore it’s not actually gay and that makes it okay~

Yep, leave in all of the psuedo-homosexual stuff because that is HILARIOUS and gets good ratings, but take out any actual gay characters. God.
